The township

The township of Te Anau is on the South West Coast of New Zealand. Fiordland is a World Heritage area and the largest National Park in New Zealand. The township provides an excellent base from which to explore the magnificent Milford and Doubtful Sounds. Te Anau has a base population of 4000 which swells to 10 000 over summer months.

Things to do

There are a growing range of activities:- Tramping, kayaking, skydiving, diving, caving, launch cruises, sailing, jet boating, fishing, hunting, mountain-biking, 18 hole golf course, mini golf, paintball, farm tours, farm bike tours, horse treks, scenic flights (float plane, helicopter and plane), 25m heated pool and movie theatre.

Things to see

Fiordland is best known for its scenic icons Milford and Doubtful Sounds. There are guided tours daily or if you would rather drive yourself it is a truly amazing and stunning 2 hour drive. The glowworm caves, Doc museum and wildlife park are all worth a visit. Fiordland is also known as the “Walking Capital of the World” and is the starting point for the Milford, Kepler and Routeburn tracks.

Relaxed shopping with souvenir and gift shops etc. Open 7 days and till late during the summer months.

Eating out

Te Anau has many cafes and restaurants offering the visitor excellent dining choices and experiences.

Accommodation is in high demand during summer months and visitors are advised to book in advance.
